Man charged over drugs and weapons, Paradise Point

Police have charged a man after allegedly locating a firearm, ammunition and drugs in a vehicle at Paradise Point in the early hours of this morning.

Around 1.30am, officers intercepted a suspicious vehicle on Oxley Drive, Jabiru Island.

It will be alleged that during a subsequent search of the vehicle, officer located a loaded, shortened .22 firearm, ammunition, a quantity of methylamphetamine (Ice) and other drug paraphernalia.

A 48-year-old Worongary man was arrested and charged with one count each of unlawfully possessing a weapon, possessing explosives (ammunition), possessing a dangerous drug and failing to dispose of a syringe.

He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today, Monday March 25.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith of Gold Coast CIB said each unlawful weapon removed from the streets makes the community safer.

“There is no lawful reason to possess a cut-down weapon and possession of one carries heavy penalties. Weapon crime is one of our highest priorities,” Detective Inspector Smith said.
