Missing man, Westcourt

Cairns Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate a 28-year-old man who was last seen yesterday in Westcourt entering a canal.

The man left a Westcourt address with a family friend around 4am before walking down to a Chinaman Creek canal located near the intersection of Brophy and Dillon streets and entering the water.

He was reported missing to police yesterday morning by family after he failed to contact them.

Police launched a search using police and SES personnel- conducting extensive searches of the creek and creek line with personnel on foot, in vehicles and in a boat, as well as use of a drone.

A land, air and water search of the canals and waterways and areas in the vicinity continued today. Searches will continue tomorrow.

Police today have continued to conduct inquiries with family and friends in the area to see if anyone has had any contact with the man. This has also included following-up on two unconfirmed sightings of the man in Cairns yesterday afternoon. Enquiries to date have not been able to confirm this information or locate him.

He is described as Aboriginal,  177cms tall with a proportionate build, short brown hair, brown eyes and a bushy brown beard. He is believed to be wearing on red and orange board shorts.

Clothing belonging to the man was located on the creek bank by friends early yesterday morning.

Police are appealing for anyone who has any information in relation to the current whereabouts of the man is urged to contact police immediately (details below).
